It has been a long while since I have visited (for a myriad of reasons), but wanted to share some photos of Deco Weekend in Napier, New Zealand.
Napier suffered a catastrophis earthquake in 1931. As a consequence, it was re-built during the Art Deco perid, and is unique in its architecture.
Every year, the local community puts on a “Deco Weekend”, celebrating the designs from this era. There is even a cruise ship that docks in Port Napier (and they had a “Gatsby Night” onboard on the way down from Auckland).
They also hold “Air Deco” with a variety of bi-planes and warbirds that come down.
Here is a gallery of the people, the planes and the places.
It is a simply stunning weekend!
(I was down for the weekend to listen to my younger son play in the orchestra for La Boheme – which, incidentally, was stunning!)
Let me know if you would like further information on any of the photos, and I will try to supply it.
Please forgive my absence for so long – I’ll try to bring more frequent updates.
As always, Live, Laugh, Love!
