Quintessentially Auckland, Western Springs is one of the enduring parks of Auckland. It was one of the first water sources for the new town, and the pump that supplied water around the growing region is still at MOTAT (Museum of Transport and Technology). The Auckland Zoo is next door as well, and wandering around the park, I was treated to the sounds of African animals having lunch – just across the fence.
The weather was stunning for a winter’s day (strains of Simon and Garfunkel running through my mind), and I appreciated the sunshine coming up to the winter solstice.
I enjoyed rediscovering the joy of wandering – and it was wonderful to see families out enjoying the sunshine and taking the opportunity to picnic in the park.
All in all, I enjoyed my stroll, and the memories from years ago.
