Today was the December 2, officially the 2nd day of summer in New Zealand. One of our native trees is the pohutukawa tree, an evergreen that has bright red flowers – and is known as the New Zealand Christmas Tree. This is because it traditionally flowers in summer, and is very prominent at beaches throught the north of the country. Christmas time means sun, beaches, summer holidays, time with family, and this is all brought together with this tree, and its brilliant display of bright red. So, it’s starting to look a lot like summer!
